Dada and Surrealism: Eliza Eslinger talks on Kahlo's Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair, {1940}.

Frida Kahlo. Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair. 1940

This is a self portrait by Frida Kahlo called Self Portrait With Cropped Hair. It is 40 x 27.9 cm, painted with oil on canvas in 1940, shortly after her first divorce with Diego Rivera. Diego was a womanizer, so he often had affairs, and this time he had cheated on her with her sister. This painting was a response to that, expressing her depression. You can see this in the drab colors atypical to her usual style. In this she chopped off her hair, a sign of femininity that Diego loved. At the top of the painting there is music and song lyrics that say something along the lines of only wanting someone because of their hair, and now that it is gone the love is gone as well. This also goes along with the theme of the painting, with her destroying her femininity to spite and separate herself from Diego. The colors in this painting are also rather drab, especially as compared to her other work.

I know this is just a short piece about the painting but you give a lot of the background information about the painting and the details about the painting. but I think it is better to link the painting with surrealism. You should provide more information in this part. Also, you should provide the reference information of your work. This is my own opinion towards your draft essay. Thank you
